THE BANKSY SERIES: An Ode To A Genius

It is appropriate to say that Banksy is one of the most influential pop artists today, as described in a past blog post on our newest addition to the Lovingood Filmclub movie family: "Banksy Does New York". His art is not only sought after by art aficionados and investors, but the social media culture his art exposure has created has opened new doors to emerging artists looking for new and innovative models of sharing their art with the world. In this case: Instagram.

During Banksy's artist residency in New York City in 2013, Banksy would create his works of art and update their existence on his Instagram account. This would send hundreds, sometimes thousands of art-enthusiasts on a citywide scavenger hunt to see the original work in the flesh before being defaced or literally cut out of a wall to be sold on the art market for millions. The art always had a hidden message. Always a subtext that touched upon the trials and tribulations of modern day society in a blatant fashion so it could be universally understood, crossing all social economic boundaries.

Over the next 10 weeks, we will be profiling a curated collection of Banksy's works featured in the Lovingood Filmclub Doc "Banksy Does New York", giving all our readers an in-depth look at the phenomenon that is Bansksy. I'd like to call this a digital ode...an ode to a genius.
